Often, we attribute as the evil of the century only to illicit drugs like crack, cocaine and marijuana, however, we can not forget those who are part of the day-to-day people, such as tobacco (cigarette) and alcohol, Socially accepted and allowed as a leisure source, relaxation and a means of softening anxiety.The National Day against Smoke was created in 1986 by Federal Law 7.488, to raise awareness and mobilize the population for social, political, economic, environmental damage caused by tobacco and the most important problems caused to collective health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) smoking is also considered a pandemic, and has been a large villain in the worsening of Covid-19, due to the risk factor for virus transmission and the most serious development of the disease.The use of tobacco directly affects the health of the lungs, causing different types of inflammation and harms the organism's defense mechanisms. Due to these complications smokers have a higher risk of virus infections, bacteria and fungi. The use of cigarette increases the frequency of infections such as sinusitis, tracheobrontions, pneumonias and tuberculosis. Therefore, we can say that smoking is a risk factor for Covid-19 and aggravates the disease significantly because it compromises pulmonary capacity and smoker is much more vulnerable to the disease.
Treating tobacco dependence is sometimes not as simple, due to nicotine, present in cigarette that has psychoactive properties, that is, by being inhaled produces change in the central nervous system, inducing abuse and addiction. Several States already have the smoking treatment program provided by the Ministry of Health in the SUS Network which offers nicotine replacement therapy (transdermal adhesive and chewing gum) and bupropion hydrochloride as support to treat this dependency.
at any time of life is worth quitting smoking, and investing in quality of life. A healthy life routine decreases the risk of infarction, the lungs work best, the smell and the palate improve returning small pleasures of smells and tasting. Investing in health is always a plausible benefit.
