Chemical Dependence and Grief

1- The loss of a significant being Significant dates can be a trigger for

substance use. All Souls Day awakens a void that can be filled in many ways. Some are healthier, like remembering the good times, remembering important events lived with someone who is no longer here and others not healthy. The consumption of psychoactive substances is one of the unhealthy ways of trying to fill the hole that is left with the loss of someone significant. Sometimes there was no time to say goodbye as you would like to say that you loved or forgave.

2- The loss of the relationship with the drug For people who suffer from Substance Use Disorder (TUS), the idea of stopping use refers to a process of grief, of loss. To abstain means to abandon the relationship with the drug, which can also leave a huge void. Experiencing the stages of the grieving process are necessary so that the individual can reframe his life.
